Here we go, Hilo!  It’s that time of year again!

 

The 62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival Royal Parade is a cherished tradition that celebrates the vibrant Hawaiian culture, the art of hula, and the rich heritage of Hilo town. This iconic event brings our community together and shares the spirit of aloha with the world.

 

Notice To Motorists

62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival Royal Parade Saturday, April 26, 2025
Aloha Hilo community,
In support of the 62nd Annual Merrie Monarch Festival Royal Parade, please be advised of the following road closures and traffic impacts scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025. These measures are in place to ensure the safety of participants and spectators during this beloved community event.

❖ Road Closures

Kamehameha Avenue Closure

  • Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm
  • Location: Kamehameha Avenue from Pauahi Street to Suisan Bridge
  • Purpose: Designated staging area for floats, marching units, and parade participants

Downtown Hilo Parade Route Closures

  • Time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Affected Areas:
    • Bayfront Highway (both directions – traffic detoured through Hilo Bayfront Park)
    • Pauahi Street
    • Kīlauea Avenue (between Pauahi Street and Ponahawai Street)
    • Keawe Street
    • Waianuenue Avenue

Traffic control officers, barricades, cones, and electronic message boards will be in place throughout the area. Motorists are urged to follow posted signs and comply with all traffic direction.

❖ Parking Restrictions

Parking will be strictly prohibited along the entire parade route and adjacent streets during the closure periods. Please relocate all vehicles prior to the start of closures to avoid citations or towing. Mahalo for your kōkua.

❖ Alternate Routes

Drivers are strongly encouraged to use alternate roadways and plan ahead to avoid delays. Detour signage will be posted and officers will assist with rerouting.

❖ Public Transportation

Hele-On Bus routes will be temporarily rerouted from the Moʻoheau Bus Terminal. Riders should check with Hele-On for updated routes and temporary stops during the event.

    Registration Information
    The parade entry form is now closed. We are no longer accepting new entries. Mahalo for your interest in participating in the parade. Hope to see you next year 2026
    Parade Route & Staging Area
    The parade follows the same route as in previous years, starting at Pi‘opi‘o and Pauahi Streets (entrance to Wailoa Center) and making its way through downtown Hilo.
    Parade Route Map:
    Key Information:
    • Report Time: 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM (staging area)
    • Lane Closures Begin: 8:00 AM (Kamehameha Avenue)
    • Announcer Stations: 9 locations along the route

     

    Parade Guidelines & Policies
    All participants must adhere to the Merrie Monarch Festival Royal Parade Guidelines to ensure a safe and successful event.
    Important Rules
    Keep Moving: Forward motion must be maintained at all times. Stopping to perform is NOT allowed.
    Safety First: No disembarking from moving vehicles or floats. Floats carrying children under 10 must have safety railings.
    Spacing: Keep 10 feet between units, or 20 feet when following Pa‘ū riders or horse-mounted units.
    No Alcohol: Consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited.
    Respectful Signage Only: No campaign signs, shirts, or banners.
    Mālama ‘Āina: Clean up your staging area before leaving. Horse-mounted units must remove manure properly.
